Tartous

Tartous is a very historic city with foundations dating back 5000 years. There are still very considerable architectural evidence of Phoenician, Greek, Roman and Byzantian civilsations occupying the city. The city was originally surrounded by a salt water moat the profile of much remains visible.

Tartous provides a ferry boat link to the only inhabited island off the Syrian coast that being the historic island of Arwad.

The climate is Mediterranean with short winter months and a moderate temperature from April to October. The hills to the east of the city create an alternative environment and climate. Tartous and the surrounding area is rich in antiquities and archeological sites. 5 important and well known sites are located within a 30-minute drive from Tartous.
